More information
In fifth grade our goal is to help our students become independent learners and thinkers so they can problem solve and grow as individuals. Since they will be going to middle school next year, we spend a lot of time in fifth grade talking about different ways students can be more responsible for their thoughts, actions, and attitudes, and take even more ownership of their learning and the choices they make. Fifth grade is a unique year in which our students get a chance to go on an overnight camping trip at the outdoor lab! There, they will have the chance to fish, kayak, test water samples, learn about the animal kingdoms, prepare community meals, hike, and go on a nighttime nature walk. In addition, the fifth graders also look forward to middle school visits and their graduation ceremony.

Common Core Curriculum | EngageNY

In order to assist schools and districts with the implementation of the Common Core, NYSED has provided curricular modules and units in P ELA and math that can be adopted or adapted for local purposes. If you have any feedback on the curriculum modules, let us know by completing the Curriculum Feedback Form. We will review all feedback as we continue to make improvements to the materials. The optional curricular materials on EngageNY are designed to be adopted or adapted.
